Saving Valuable Energy Within Your Home

Saving Valuable Energy Within Your Home

If you are feeling the pinch from the cost of living crisis then you are not alone. There is a high percentage of homeowners and renters who are wondering how they can save money on their weekly, monthly, and annual bills. The good news is there are a few ways in which you can save yourself some money on your energy bills. However, with winter fast approaching you may not notice a huge difference until next summer. Take a look below for some ideas and inspiration on how to lower your energy usage within your home.

Smart Meters

If you are watching how much you spend and you want to be even more aware of how much your energy bills will be, then why not install a smart meter into your property? This is a small electrical device that tracks how much energy you use and then converts it into how much you owe. A lot of energy companies are being told to offer these to their customers free of charge. If you don’t already have one then it is worth looking into.

As for getting one installed, your energy company will send someone out to do this for you. If anything goes wrong with it then you need to let them know, although they should be able to tell from their end. If something does happen then they can send out local electricians to have a look for you.

Boiler Maintenance

If you are experiencing boiler issues then this can send your energy bills through the roof. It is always worth keeping an eye on your gas bill, as this will alert you to anything that is going wrong. It is recommended that you get your boiler serviced by a gas safety-approved engineer once a year. If you rent your property then your landlord will arrange this for you. If anything is wrong with your boiler at the inspection then the engineer will give you some options to rectify this.

Wash At 20

You might find that you are constantly doing the washing, especially if you are within a bigger household. This can cause havoc to your energy bills as your washing machine is a big appliance. All you have to do to cut down your energy consumption is switch the temperature dial to 20 or 30. Twenty is much better for the environment but also your bills, don’t worry your washing will still get just as clean as it did before.

Sensible Swaps

Finally, if you are still on the lookout for things you haven’t yet tried then how about swapping appliances to save energy? For instance, rather than using your oven to heat up that ready meal, you could use your microwave instead. The microwave cooks faster and therefore it will use less energy than a regular oven. Alternatively, if you aren’t a fan of using your microwave to cook your food you could invest in an air fryer. These are not only healthy but have been known to use half the energy compared to your oven.
