Three Ways Air Conditioning Can Benefit Your Health

With the UK summers getting progressively hotter each year, many people are starting to consider installing air conditioning (AC) in their homes and workplaces to stay cool and better handle the heat – these HVAC systems can also be used to heat your home/office in the winter, so they’re certainly a worthwhile investment!

This isn’t the only reason why you may wish to invest in air conditioning, however. Did you know that it can actually benefit your health? Yep, you read that right. Read on below as we discuss three of the ways in which air conditioning can be beneficial to your health and wellbeing.

Keeps You Cool

Of course, the most obvious benefit of air conditioning systems is that they keep you cool. This isn’t just beneficial for your comfort, though, but actually helps to keep you safe and healthy, also.

When temperatures are particularly high, it can be hard to regulate your temperature, especially considering that our houses here in the UK are built to keep the heat in, rather than out. As such, you may find yourself sweating a lot more than usual, especially if you’re doing some sort of activity such as exercise or work in the garden that makes you even hotter. This can quickly lead to dehydration or heat stroke, which can have serious effects on your health.

Since air conditioning cools you and your house down, it will reduce your sweating and keep your body temperature low, reducing your chances of dehydration and heat stroke.

Filters the Air

Like many in the UK, there’s a high chance that you suffer from hayfever in the summer months. This can really have a negative effect on your everyday life, resembling the symptoms of a cold yet lasting a few months rather than a couple of weeks. This can then lead to a poorer sleep quality at night, which in turn has its own implications on your health. For those who also struggle with asthma, allergic irritants can even trigger an asthma attack.

Air conditioning, then, is great for offering allergy sufferers relief. An AC unit filters the air before it releases it into your home, so that the air quality it is releasing is as clean and high-quality as possible. This includes filtering the potential pollutants and allergens, such as pollen or dust mites, that usually trigger your symptoms, thus helping you breathe and sleep better.

Reduces High Humidity

Air conditioning releases cool, dry air into your home. As a result, it reduces your home’s humidity. This can be extremely beneficial to your health, since humid conditions not only attract insects and are linked to dust mites, heatstroke and dehydration, but can also encourage damp to develop, which could then lead to mould – all of which, the latter especially, are less than ideal for your health.
